Responding to EDD Document Requests

EDD may request additional documentation during claim processing. Prompt, complete responses keep your claim moving.

Types of Requests

Wage Verification

What They Want:

  • Pay stubs from specific period
  • W-2 forms
  • Employer verification of wages

Why They Need It:

  • Wage records don't match their database
  • Unusual pay pattern detected
  • Need to calculate benefit amount

How to Respond:

  1. Gather the exact documents requested
  2. Make copies for your records
  3. Submit via method specified (online, mail, fax)
  4. Include your claim number on every page

Medical Certification

What They Want:

  • Doctor's certification form
  • Additional medical details
  • Updated prognosis

Why They Need It:

  • Initial certification not received
  • Certification incomplete
  • Disability duration needs verification

How to Respond:

  1. Contact your doctor immediately
  2. Ask them to complete form promptly
  3. Follow up to confirm submission
  4. If mailing, use certified mail
Doctor's offices are busy. Call them personally to request they prioritize the EDD form. Your benefits are delayed until they respond.

Identity Verification

What They Want:

  • Copy of ID
  • Social Security verification
  • Additional identity documents

Why They Need It:

  • Identity verification routine
  • Potential fraud check
  • Information mismatch

How to Respond:

  1. Provide exactly what's requested
  2. Use secure methods (in-person preferred)
  3. Never email Social Security cards
  4. Keep records of what you submitted

Employment Verification

What They Want:

  • Employment dates verification
  • Wage confirmation
  • Separation reason clarification

Why They Need It:

  • Employment records unclear
  • Multiple employers during base period
  • Classification questions

How to Respond:

  1. Provide the information requested yourself if possible
  2. Contact FedEx PAC (Pilot Administration Center) if employer response needed
  3. Follow up proactively to ensure response is submitted
  4. Provide direct contact to PAC with your claim number if EDD will contact employer directly
FedEx does not electronically submit information to CA EDD, unlike many employers. Historically, requests sent to FedEx payroll departments have experienced significant delays or may not receive responses. The PAC (Pilot Administration Center) has access to payroll data and is generally more responsive than payroll departments, but may still require persistent follow-up. Monitor your claim status closely and follow up with both EDD and FedEx to prevent delays.

Response Best Practices

Speed Matters

Delays in responding extend your processing time dollar-for-dollar.

  • Respond within 48-72 hours of receiving request
  • Faster is always better
  • Set up alerts for EDD correspondence

Be Complete

Incomplete responses cause additional delays.

  • Provide exactly what's requested
  • Include all pages of multi-page documents
  • Write your claim number on every page
  • Respond to every question asked

Document Your Response

Keep records of what you sent:

  • Copy of every document submitted
  • Date and method of submission
  • Confirmation (if available)
  • Notes of any phone conversations
