How to monitor your SDI claim status

Tracking Your SDI Claim

Check your claim status every 2-3 days during active processing — EDD sometimes updates status without sending notifications.

Online Tracking

Setting Up Online Access

  1. Go to myedd.edd.ca.gov
  2. Log in with your account credentials
  3. Navigate to "Disability Insurance"
  4. View your claim dashboard

What You'll See Online

  • Claim ID, disability begin date, current status
  • Messages and correspondence — check this section separately from status; document requests appear here first
  • Payment history: dates, amounts, and payment method

Status That Need Immediate Attention

Physician Certification Needed: If this stays for more than 48 hours after you filed Part A, your doctor likely hasn't submitted their part. Your claim is effectively frozen until this happens. Call your doctor's office directly — confirm they have your Claim Receipt Number and are using their California medical license number.

Additional Information Requested: For pilots, this often means EDD found a discrepancy between your reported wages and FedEx's reported data (which may include sick bank usage listed as regular pay). Check your online messages for a request to submit pay stubs or an explanation of pay.

Suspended: Usually occurs if you missed a bi-weekly certification or if there's an identity verification issue. Call the EDD main line (1-800-480-3287) immediately.

Phone Tracking

When to Call

  • Status hasn't updated in 14 days
  • You've submitted requested info but status is still "Incomplete" after 5 business days
  • You need to report a return-to-work date that differs from your initial claim

How to Call EDD

Main SDI Line: 1-800-480-3287

  • Best time to call: 8:00 AM sharp, or mid-week
  • Wait times: Prepare for 45-90 minutes

What to Ask the Representative

  1. "Has my physician's Part B been successfully linked to my claim?"
  2. "Are there any flags for identity verification (ID.me) on my account?"
  3. "Are my highest quarterly wages appearing correctly in your system?"
  4. "Is there any additional information needed regarding my FedEx pay structure?"

Common Tracking Issues

Status Never Changes

  1. Check online messages — a document request may be waiting there without a status change
  2. Call EDD; ask specifically whether any flags or holds exist on your account
  3. Visit in person if two phone attempts produce no resolution

Can't Access Online Account

  1. Reset password at myedd.edd.ca.gov
  2. Try a different browser (SDI Online has known issues with some browsers)
  3. Call EDD tech support — they can unlock accounts; use phone tracking in the meantime

Conflicting Information

If what the phone rep says differs from what online shows:

  1. Wait 24-48 hours — online status can lag phone updates
  2. Call back and ask the rep to add a note to your file confirming what was stated
  3. Document each call: date, time, rep ID if provided, what was said

Tracking Log

Keep a simple log:

Date | Action | Status/Result
------------|-----------------|------------------
03/15/2026 | Filed claim | Confirmation #12345
03/18/2026 | Checked online | Status: Received
03/22/2026 | Checked online | Status: Pending Medical
03/25/2026 | Called doctor | They'll certify tomorrow
03/29/2026 | Checked online | Status: Approved

When to Escalate

Escalate if:

  • 4+ weeks with no progress
  • EDD is unresponsive after two call attempts
  • Status is "Suspended" and EDD cannot explain why

Escalation Options:

  1. Visit in person — see Which Office to Visit
  2. Contact your CA Assembly member — they have dedicated EDD liaisons who can unlock stalled claims
  3. Contact ALPA — union can sometimes assist, particularly for FedEx-specific pay disputes
